The Baycats scored twice in the top of the first inning and led 2-1 until the bottom of the third when the Maple Leafs tied it. Toronto then outscored visiting Barrie 7-1 the rest of the way to earn the victory in game one of the semi-final series.
Maple Leafs starter Chris Rauth threw eight strong innings to earn the win, striking out ten along the way. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits and walked only one. Gamon Teague led the Toronto offense with three hits, three runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI.
Barrie starter Cam Newitt took the loss, giving up five earned runs (eight in total) on ten hits over seven innings. He struck out three and walked two. David Latour led the Baycats attack, scoring twice and picking up two hits. Sean O�Brien chipped in with a pair of hits.
Game two is set for Tuesday night in Barrie at 7:30.
Haase Belts Three-Run Home Run To Lead Cardinals

Jerrod Haase hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to erase a 7-6 Guelph lead and give visiting Hamilton a 9-7 win in game one of their semi-final series. Haase went 4 for 5 on the night to lead the Cardinals, while Omar Goldston picked up the win in relief of starter Jason Pilkington. Goldston tossed and inning and a third, giving up one earned run on three hits while striking out two and walking one. Pilkington gave up six earned runs on six hits in six innings of work.
Guelph reliever Dave Riley took the loss after allowing two earned runs in one inning. Starter Mel Melehes was tagged for six earned runs on fourteen hits while striking out nine and walking one. Player-Coach Kevin Hinton led the Royals offensively with a two-run home run in the fourth.
The Royals held leads of 2-0, 4-2, 6-4 and 7-6 in the game. Game two goes Tuesday night in Guelph at Hastings Stadium.
