Paul Spoljaric and Tim Goheen combined for a four-hit shutout as the visiting Maple Leafs blanked the Baycats 4-0 to take a 1-0 lead in the best of seven semi-final series.
Spoljaric started and blanked Barrie for five innings, giving up three hits and striking out eight. Goheen (1-0) earned the win with four shutout innings, giving up four hits and striking out five. Kevin Foley led the Toronto attack with two hits and the only RBI of the night � one Maple Leaf run came on a Barrie error and two scored on wild pitches. Gamon Teague added three hits with Rob Butler and Damon Topolie adding two hits each.
For Barrie Jared McCord had three of the Baycats four hits. Starter Brad Bissell (1-1) took the loss, giving up two earned runs on eight hits while striking out ten in seven-plus innings. Angus Roy went the remainder of the game and gave up an earned run on two hits.
The Baycats set a new franchise record tonight with attendance of 1216. Game three is back at Toronto�s Christie Pits Wednesday at 7:30.
