Maple Leafs Complete Sweep Of Baycats With 6-2 Victory

The Maple Leafs have moved into the Intercounty Major championship series with 6-2 win in Barrie Saturday afternoon, and a four-game sweep of the Baycats. Toronto starter Chris Rauth earned his second win of the series with six innings of work, giving up one earned run on five hits. John Chadwick picked up the save with three scoreless innings. Gamon Teague lead the Maple Leafs attack with three hits, including a two-RBI double. Sean Travers added two hits and RBI while Kevin Foley picked up an RBI-triple. For Barrie Cory Turchan went 2 for 3 with an RBI-double. Brad Grieveson took the loss, allowing five earned runs on eleven hits in seven and a third innings. He also struck out six. The Maple Leafs will now wait for the winner of the Hamilton/Guelph series, which could end tonight.

The Royals spotted the visiting Cardinals a 4-0 lead after two and a half innings but shutout Hamilton the rest of the way en route to a 5-4 victory. Guelph still trails the semi-final series 3 games to 1 with game five in Hamilton Sunday afternoon at 2:00. Matt Spatafora�s RBI-single in the bottom of the ninth inning capped the Royals comeback. Nathan Grant led Guelph with two hits, including a solo home run in the third, and he also scored twice. Chris Becker added two hits, two RBI�s and scored a pair of runs. Jeremy Walker, who scored twice and went 1 for 4 with two RBI�s, led Hamilton.
