The Cardinals got off to a great start after Sean Reilly belted a solo home run, his second of the playoffs, in the top of the second to give Hamilton a 1-0 lead. Toronto came back with two in the third to take a 2-1 lead, then exploded for twelve runs over three innings to pick up the easy victory. Rob Patterson and Damon Topolie led the Toronto attack. Patterson hit a solo home run in the sixth and added a three-run blast in the seventh, his second and third homers of the playoffs. Topolie had four RBI�s on a solo home run in the sixth and a three-run double in the eighth. Rob Butler added a two-run blast and had three RBI�s while Gamon Teague scored three times, stole four bases and had three hits. Dave Steffler earned the win with six solid innings of relief work. He gave up one earned run on four hits while striking out six and walking one. Paul Spoljaric started for the Maple Leafs but left the game with stiffness in his left arm after two innings. Hamilton ace Justin Bartkiewicz took the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits in six and two-thirds innings. He struck out three and walked a pair. Game two goes Saturday in Hamilton at 2:00
