The Maple Leafs have taken a 2-0 lead in the Championship Series with this afternoon�s 6-2 win over the Cardinals in Hamilton.
Toronto starter Tim Goheen threw a complete-game five-hitter and held Hamilton off the scoreboard until the seventh inning. He struck out six and walked two to up his playoff record to 2-0.
Gamon Teague hammered the game�s first pitch over the fence for a solo home run, then Rob Butler scored on a Rich Butler sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 after half an inning. Damon Topolie followed that up with a two-run home run in the third. In the fourth Jason Corrigale scored on a passed ball and Sean Travers� RBI groundout complete the Toronto scoring.
Hamilton hurler Bill Lawrence also went the distance but took the loss after giving up five earned runs on eight hits while striking out six and walking two. Sean Reilly hit a solo home run to get the Cardinals on the board in the seventh. Jerod Haase then stroked a triple and scored on Brandon Schmidt�s RBI groundout.
Game three goes Sunday afternoon in Toronto at 2:00.
