Toronto Maple Leafs 10, St. Thomas Storm 1

In Toronto, Paul Spoljaric pitched five hitless innings to back the Maple Leafs to a 10-1 win over the St. Thomas Storm on Sunday.

Jeff Aishford carried the no-hitter into the eighth inning before Eric Seger broke it up with a single.

Spoljaric (1-0) struck out 11 batters and walked two in the win.

Nathan French (0-2) pitched the complete game for St. Thomas, allowing 10 runs - six earned - and 11 hits while striking out four batters and walking 11.

Ron Patterson clubbed a pair of solo home runs for Toronto, who are 3-0 to start the season. Rob Butler also homered and Damon Topolie added three singles and an RBI.

In Waterloo, Greg Stefan was four-for-five and drove in five runs to power the Tigers to a 12-4 win over the Barrie Baycats.

Greg Heffernan (1-1) gave up two unearned runs in five innings and John Hanko added a pair of hits, including a solo home run.

Brad Bellerby (0-1) surrendered nine earned runs and 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Jarod McCord was three-for-five in the loss.

Kitchener Panthers 2, Hamilton Cardinals 1

In Hamilton, Brian Carter stole third base and scored the winning run on an errant throw by catcher Geoff Allen to lift the Kitchener Panthers to a 2-1 win over the Cardinals.

Bryon Bell (1-0) allowed one unearned run and two hits while striking out seven batters in four innings. Craig Stroh and Joel Scott each had two hits for Kitchener.

Sean Allen (0-1) gave up one run and one hit in two innings of relief.

Tommy Robertson scored for Hamilton on a sacrifice fly by Shayne Ridley to tie the game in the eighth inning.
