Kitchener Panthers 7, Oshawa Dodgers 5

In Kitchener, Andy Pietraszko hit a pair of two-run home runs to power the Panthers to a 7-5 win over the Oshawa Dodgers on Sunday.

Pietraszko put the Panthers ahead in the eighth inning with a drive over the centre field wall after Steve Zimmermann struck out and then reached first base on a wild pitch to extend the inning. Rich Chanko added two hits and scored a run in the win.

Tom Bertic (1-0) pitched a hitless inning of relief for starter Joel Scott and Chris Currie closed the game with a scoreless ninth inning for his first save.

Steve Butterworth (0-1) pitched 5 1/3 innings of relief, giving up six runs - two earned - and five hits while striking out five batters and walking four.

Mick Kurhan was three-for-four with a two-run home run in the second inning and Ryan Balan hit a solo drive to lead off the fourth inning.

Hamilton Cardinals 5, St. Thomas Storm 2

In Hamilton, R.J. Lambert smacked a three-run double in the third inning to pace the Cardinals to a 5-2 win over the St. Thomas Storm.

Jayson Pilkington (2-0) worked seven innings, allowing two runs and three hits while striking out five batters and walking five for the win. Jeff McLeod pitched two scoreless innings to earn his first save.

Rick Ross (0-2) allowed five runs and five hits in six innings before reliever Nathan French finished the game with two scoreless innings.

Shayne Ridley put Hamilton on the board with a bases-loaded walk in the third inning.

Toronto Maple Leafs 6, Brantford Red Sox 1

In Toronto, Carl Embro drove in the winning run with a two-run single in the sixth inning to help the Maple Leafs to a 6-1 win over the Brantford Red Sox.

Paul Spoljaric (3-0) held the Red Sox to one run and three hits in a seven-inning start. He fanned 11 batters to raise his league-leading strikeout total to 50 in five games.

Rob Patterson, with a two-run blast, and Mike Grieve homered in the seventh inning for Toronto.

Starter Jim Ripley (0-1) allowed three runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in six innings and Tyler Hughes hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for Brantford.

In Waterloo, Paul Bruder pitched a complete-game shutout to back the Guelph Royals to a 5-0 win over the Tigers in the opening game of a doubleheader.

Bruder (2-0) allowed two hits - including a fifth inning single to Matt Moir that spoiled the no-hit bid - while striking out three batters and walking one.

Kevin Hinton was two-for-four with a double and scored a run and Jason Borges scored the winning run in the second inning.

Brad Earle (1-2) worked all seven innings for Waterloo, allowing five runs - one earned - and six hits while striking out five batters.

Ryan Armstrong pitched five scoreless innings to help Guelph to a 9-1 win in the second game.

Armstrong (1-0) allowed one hit and five walks and struck out three batters. Casey Cooper and Ray Dennis each worked one inning of relief.

Trevor Churchill had three hits and scored two runs and Hinton added a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning.

Earle (1-3) also started the second game for Waterloo, giving up five runs and seven hits before leaving the game after three innings.

In London, Kevin MacDonald had two hits, including a two-run single in the first inning, to help the Majors to a 5-1 win in the opener of a doubleheader against the Barrie Baycats.

Rob Robinson (1-1) went the distance for London, allowing one run and six hits while striking out seven batters in seven innings.

Starter Derek McDaid (0-1) allowed five runs and five hits in five innings.

Jared McCord tripled and scored the winning run in the fifth inning to help Barrie to a 4-2 win in the second game.

Matt Miller (1-0) pitched all seven innings, striking out two batters and walking four. Liam O'Brien and Jordan Lundberg each added a pair of hits in the win.

Starter Mike Lumley (0-1) allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings and John Boom tripled and drove in a run.
