HAMILTON, ONTARIO WEDNESDAY MAY 8, 2002

C101.5 FM, the Campus Radio Station at Mohawk College in Hamilton Ontario is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached between the Radio Station and the Hamilton Cardinals of the Inter-County Baseball League to provide play-by-play broadcasts of the Cardinals home games for the 2002 season. The first broadcast is set for the Wednesday May 22, 2002 home game against the Waterloo Tigers at Bernie Arbour Stadium in Hamilton.

C101.5 FM also broadcasts all games for the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League, but that arrangement involves the Bulldogs own play-by-play man, Derek Wills. With the agreement between C101.5 FM and the Hamilton Kilty Bees, student volunteers of the Radio Station will handle all play-by-play duties. C101.5 FM Sports Director John Vessoyan will host the broadcasts, while fellow Media Studies students Matt Holmes, Kyle Smith and Damian LaCroix will share the play-by-play/colour commentator chores.

C101.5 FM Station Manager Les Palango praised Hamilton Cardinals President Brian Hanson for his willingness to enter into an agreement with a Campus Radio Station.

Brian Hanson has faith, as do I, in the abilities of our young broadcasters to pull-off a first-rate broadcast. The three individuals involved in this venture are no strangers to the live play-by-play environment, says Mr. Palango.

C101.5 FM is a diverse radio station catering to a wide-ranging age demographic in the immediate Hamilton area. The radio station is operated under the auspices of the Mohawk Students Association and is staffed by current and former Broadcasting Program students, as well as a number of volunteers from the community.

C101.5 FM FACTS

There has been a student radio station in operation at Mohawk College for more than twenty-five years. It was located in various parts of the college throughout its existence until it moved to its permanent home in room G108 of the new Student Centre, which was built in 1986.

In its brief history, C101.5 FM has accomplished a significant landmark. In August of 1998, after just a few short months on the air, the station reached an agreement with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey league to become the home broadcaster for the team. The first game aired on October 3, 1998. The station is the first campus radio station to become the originating broadcaster for a professional sports franchise.
