July 23 - Intercounty Baseball Results

Oshawa Dodgers 2, Barrie Baycats 0

In Oshawa, Ryan Balan tossed a complete-game shutout and drove in the winning run with a single in the first inning to give the Dodgers a 2-0 win over the Barrie Baycats. The win clinched a playoff berth for the Dodgers, who joined the IBL as an expansion team in 2002.

Balan (4-3) was near perfect, giving up just one hit - a double to James Foster in the fifth inning and striking out 11 batters while walking one.

Ryan Crotin was three-for-four with a double and Adam Stokes added an RBI single in the second inning for Oshawa.

Starter Matt Miller (2-2) worked seven innings for Barrie, giving up two runs and seven hits before Andrew Hawes pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

London Majors 7, Waterloo Tigers 3

In London, Kevin McDonald was four-for-four with a double and drove in a pair of runs to help the Majors to a 7-3 win over the Waterloo Tigers.

Steve Held added a single and drove in two runs for London.

Jared Franke (2-1) worked seven innings, giving up one run and four hits with six strikeouts and two walks for the win. Ken Williams finished the game with three strikeouts in two innings.

Mike Robertson (0-1) gave up seven runs in the loss. He struck out one batter and walked five in six innings. John Hanko had a pair of hits, including a triple, for Waterloo.

Toronto Maple Leafs 7, Hamilton Cardinals 4

In Toronto, Adwin Springer had three hits, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning and an RBI double in the seventh to pace the Maple Leafs to a 7-4 win over the Hamiltion Cardinals.

Kevin Foley added a pair of hits and an RBI for Toronto, who can clinch the IBL pennant with a win in Kitchener on Thursday.

Jon Lockwood (5-0) tossed eight scoreless innings for Toronto. He struck out 14 batters and walked four while giving up three hits. John Chadwick surrendered four runs without recording an out in the ninth inning before Doug Dimma struck out the side for his first save.

Mark McDonald (2-1) suffered the loss after giving up eight runs and 12 hits in seven innings. Jon McGinn crushed a grand slam in the ninth inning to put Hamilton on the board.

The game in Brantford between the Red Sox and the St. Thomas Storm was postponed due to rain. A make-up date will be announced in the near future.
