Toronto Maple Leafs 4, Brantford Red Sox 2

In Toronto, Kevin Treichel blasted a solo home run in the fifth inning and Kevin Foley smacked a game-winning two-run single in the seventh to give the Maple Leafs a 4-2 win over the Brantford Red Sox in the opening game of their semi-final playoff series.

Paul Spoljaric (1-0), who was a perfect 11-0 in the regular season, started the playoffs with another dominating performance. He allowed two runs on a pair of solo homers and three hits in a complete game effort for Toronto. Spoljaric struck out 11 batters and walked one in the win.

Stefan Strecker (0-2) gave up four runs and six hits in seven innings and Brad Hogeterp finished the game with a scoreless inning of relief.

Jesse Robertson homered in the fourth inning and Dave Parsons added a solo shot in the eighth for Brantford.

Guelph Royals 5, Kitchener Panthers 4

In Kitchener, Dave Teboekhorst led off the ninth inning with a home run that proved to be the winning run as the Guelph Royals edged the Panthers 5-4. Guelph leads the best-of-seven series 2-0 and host Game 3 on Tuesday.

Ryan Armstrong (2-0) picked up the win for Guelph and Aaron Little earned the save. Little picked off a runner at first base with one out in the ninth inning to shut down a Kitchener rally.

Joel Scott (0-2) took the loss for Kitchener and Randy Curran had three hits, including a double, and drove in one run.
