Tigers Get First Win Thanks To Cardinals Errors

Waterloo picked up their first win of the season thanks to five unearned runs on five Hamilton errors. Five different Tigers had singles while Mike Curphey went the distance to earn the win. For the Cardinals Jeremy Paikin had a double and a single while R.J. Lambert added a pair of singles. Hamilton�s record slips to 1 and 1 with the defeat while Waterloo improves to 1 and 2.

The Panthers went deep ten times in this game, including a pair of grand slams in a sixteen-run fifth inning. Inter-County Major career home run leader Randy Curran was four for seven with eight RBI�s and three home runs including a grand slam. Jeff Pietraszko went five for six with two home runs (one a grand slam) and seven RBI�s. John Hanko chipped in with a pair of home runs as did Mark Johnston. Todd Doherty earned the win in relief of starter Joel Scott. Doherty went three hitless innings, but did walk four. Scott struggled, giving up home runs to three of the first four batters he faced. Wayne Foreman led the Majors attack going two for four with two RBI�s. Chuck Roberts chipped in with a hit and an RBI. Jared Franke took the loss for London giving up nine earned runs on eight hits in four-plus innings.
Travers Knocks In Winning Run For Maple Leafs

Sean Travers knocked in Damon Topolie in the bottom of the tenth inning as Toronto squeaked out a win against visiting Barrie. Travers went two for five on the afternoon while Topolie added two hits. Rob Patterson went one for four with 2 RBI�s including a home run. Maple Leafs starter Paul Spoljoric threw five shutout innings, allowing only two hits while striking out nine and walking none. Reliever Dave Hatch threw the final two innings to earn the win despite giving up two earned runs. Baycats reliever Ryan Johns took the loss after giving up two earned runs on three hits in three innings of work. Jordan Lundberg led Barrie offensively with three hits and a pair of RBI�s while Cory Torchan added a pair of hits and scored a run. The game featured five double-plays and even a Toronto triple-play in the ninth inning that took away a Barrie run. The third out came on an appeal play at the plate.
