Guelph wins Intercounty Baseball League Championship
In Guelph, Eric Laseke drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to give the Royals an 8-3 win over the Brantford Red Sox in the deciding game of the 2003 Intercounty Baseball League Championship Series.
Guelph defeated Brantford 4-3 to win the Jack and Lynne Dominico Trophy as IBL champions for the third time in the past 11 years.
Jason Gotwalt gave Brantford an early lead with a two-run double in the first inning before Rob Dinwoodie tied the game with a two-run double in the third.
Brian Dikdan (2-1) gave up three runs in six innings for the win and Brett Gibson (2-1) gave up five runs in 3 1/3 innings for Brantford.
Aaron Little finished the game with his third save. Little and Guelph first baseman Kevin Hinton were named co-MVP's of the 2003 IBL playoffs as selected by the media covering the championship series.
