Royals Down Panthers, Remain Undefeated

Both teams scored early but the Royals scored more often to down the defending champions. Kitchener jumped out to a 1-0 lead but Chris Becker�s two-run home run off Panthers starter Chris Currie gave the Royals a 2-1 lead after one. Guelph led 5-3 after the third and put the game away with a two-run sixth. Mel Melehes went seven innings for the win, giving up five earned runs on six hits while striking out nine and walking only two. Matt Spatafora and Mark Scrignoli each had three hits to pace the Royals while Trevor Churchill added a solo home run in the sixth inning. For Kitchener Jeff Pietraszko had a big afternoon going four for five with a pair of triples and two RBI�s. Currie took the loss, allowing six earned runs over four innings. He walked two and struck out two.

Robinson Leads Majors Past Maple Leafs

London catcher Chris Robinson stroked a two-run single in the fourth inning to lead the Majors to a 2-1 win over visiting Toronto in the first game of a double header. That would be all the scoring London would need as Adam Gautreau threw a complete-game four-hitter to earn the win. He struck out four. Toronto starter Tim Goheen took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits over six innings. He also had eight strikeouts. The Maple Leafs� only run came on a Rich Butler sacrifice fly while brother Rob had a double.

Rob Patterson threw a complete-game six-hitter and stroked a home run to help Toronto earn a split. Patterson struck out six London hitters and he added a solo homer in the sixth inning. For the Majors, Chris Robinson had 3 singles while Joe Wollscheid was tagged with the loss. He also threw a complete-game six-hitter with two strikeouts and a walk.
