Kitchener Panthers 6, Oshawa Dodgers 5

In Kitchener, Mark Johnston smashed a game-winning homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Kitchener Panthers a 6-5 win over the Oshawa Dodgers in the Intercounty Baseball League on Sunday.

Jason Williams (1-0) tossed a hitless inning of relief for the win after starter Omar Goldson allowed three earned runs in six innings.

Luke Baker was three-for-four with an RBI and scored a run in the win.

Scott Robinson (0-1) was the loser after giving up a pair of runs in two innings of relief for starter Travis Gilligan, who allowed four runs and 11 hits in seven innings.

Brantford Red Sox 8, Stratford Storm 1

In Stratford, John Mariotti homered and drove in two runs to pace the Brantford Red Sox to an 8-1 win over the Stratford Storm.

Len Elias doubled and drove in a run and Nildo Munoz and Tyler Burnell each added a pair of singles and an RBI.

Joel Thorney (1-0) gave up one hit in six scoreless innings before Elliott Love allowed one run in three innings of relief.

Yoel Fernandez (0-2) gave up six runs - five earned - and six hits in six innings.

Mark Cox singled and drove in Stratford's only run.

In Hamilton, Geoff Allen clubbed a sixth inning homer and drove in three runs to help the Hamilton Cardinals double the Guelph Royals 6-3 in the opening game of a doubleheader.

Brett Lawson (2-0) gave up three unearned runs and three hits in seven innings. Jon McGinn and Matt Fortuna both doubled in the win.

Kyle Leon stroked a three-run homer in the first inning that helped Guelph to a 7-6 win in the second game.

Jake Heinz (1-0) allowed six runs - three earned - and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings for the win and Aaron Little recorded the final two outs for his first save.

Frankie Hare belted a two-run double in the third inning for Guelph.

Starter Mark McDonald (1-1) gave up seven runs in 2 2/3 innings before Travis Hubble finished the game with 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Allen added a two-run homer in the third inning for Hamilton.

In Toronto, Paul Spoljaric gave up one run and three hits in a complete-game performance to back the Toronto Maple Leafs to an 8-1 win over the London Majors in the first game of a doubleheader at Christie Pits.

Spoljaric (2-0) struck out seven batters to improve his league-leading strikeout tally to 36 in four games.

Mike Mitro (1-1) allowed six runs and seven hits in five innings.

Danny Gibbons led the Leafs at the plate with three hits, including a sixth-inning homer, and drove in three runs.

In the second game, Rob Butler led the Leafs with three hits while Gibbons added two hits and brought in two runs. Rich Butler had a two-run home run in the first inning.

Winning pitcher Matt Kniginyzky (2-0) allowed two hits while striking out four and walking one in five innings.

Losing pitcher Kevin Virtue (1-3) allowed seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts in seven innings.
