London makes splash in TorontoLondon Majors 9, Toronto Maple Leafs 6 (London leads series 1-0).
The upstart London Majors who finished 6th in the regular season, stunned the Toronto Maple Leafs in the opener of their best of 7 Intercounty League semi final.
The Majors blew an early 4-2 lead, fell behind 6-4 and then rallied for 3 runs in the 8th and two more in the 9th to win 9-6 at Christie Pits.
The game was held up for 2 hours and 23 minutes, by an on and off heavy rain, with two out in the top of the 5th and London clinging to a 3-2 lead.
After play resumed, Rob Butler put Toronto ahead with a grand slam with one down in the top of the 7th, to knock out Majors starter Tom VanKasteren.
Undaunted London went ahead with 3 in the 8th off reliever Doug Dimma including a go ahead two run double by Jeremy Hudson, with two down. Pete Babcock put the game on ice with a two run homer off Dave Hatch in the 9th. Shayne Riley got the win. Kevin Virtue moved in from right field in the 8th, and finished up for the save.
Dimma took the loss.
Game 2 goes Tuesday night at John Labatt Park in London at 7:30. Game 3 is back at Christie Pits, Wednesday night at 7:30.

Guelph Royals 2, Brantford Redsox 0 (Guelph leads series 1-0).
In Brantford, Chris Becker had two singles and drove in a pair of runs, including the game-winner in the fourth inning to give the Guelph Royals a 2-0 win over the Brantford Red Sox in the first game of their semi-final series.
Brian Barr allowed five hits in a complete-game shutout.
Sean Reilly doubled and scored a run and Jamie Pogue singled and scored the winning run.
Brad Hogeterp took the loss after giving up two runs and five hits in 7 1/3 innings.
Eric Wolfe hit three singles and Jon Mariotti and Wayne Foreman both doubled for Brantford.
