Toronto Maple Leafs 2, Kitchener Panthers 1

In Toronto, Paul Spoljaric tossed six shutout innings and Danny Gibbons belted a two-run homer in the sixth inning to help the Maple Leafs edge the Kitchener Panthers 2-1 in the Intercounty Baseball League on Sunday.

Spoljaric (1-0) allowed two hits and no walks while striking out 12 batters in the win. David Hatch tossed two innings of scoreless relief before Yole Reina allowed a run in the ninth inning. Doug Dimma recorded the final two outs for his first save of the season.

John Morbey (0-1) gave up two runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings and Jeff Pietraszko had three hits for Kitchener.

Hamilton Thunderbirds 3, Barrie Baycats 2

In Hamilton, Tom Robertson hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to lift the Thunderbirds to a 3-2 win over the Barrie Baycats.

Justin Wendt doubled and scored a run and Geoff Allen scored the winning run for the Thunderbirds.

Justin Barktkiewicz picked up the win with an inning of relief after starter Billy Lawrence allowed two runs - one earned - and five hits in six innings.

Angus Roy (0-1) allowed three unearned runs on five hits in a complete-game effort for Barrie. Ryan Spataro had a pair of hits, including a triple and scored a run in the loss.

The game between the Oshawa Dodgers and Stratford Storm was postponed due to wet field conditions in Stratford. The game between the Guelph Royals and London Majors was postponed due to the health concerns of London Manager Harry Muir.
