Toronto Maple Leafs 6, Barrie Baycats 3

In Barrie, Damon Topolie went 2-for4 with a home run and two RBI's and Danny Gibbons went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI's to lead the Leafs to a 6-3 win over the Barrie Baycats in one of three Intercounty Baseball League games Saturday night. Gamin Teague also went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Toronto.

Winning pitcher Paul Spoljaric (5-1) went the distance allowing 10 hits and three walks while striking out 12. Angus Roy (4-2) also went the distance, allowing six runs, all earned, 12 hits and one walk while whiffing eight.

Ryan Spataro was 3-for-5 for the Baycats with a solo home run. Jonathan Baksh was 2-for-5 and David Latour was 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

In Oshawa, the Majors took the first game of a doubleheader 3-1 behind the five-hit pitching of Shawn Gillespie (2-1). In six innings, he struckout five and the only run allowed was unearned. Mike Mitro picked up the save (2nd) by striking out the seventh. Losing pitcher Brian Sewell (2-5) allowed five hits, three runs (only one earned), four walks while striking out six in six and one-third innings.

Kyle Piwowarczyk was 2-for-4 with two RBI's while Pete Babcock drove in the winning run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly. Brad McConnachie was 2-for-3 for Oshawa with an RBI single in the sixth.

The Dodgers earned a split in the doubleheader behind the five-hit pitching of Mat Wilson (2-2) in the second game. Wilson allowed only one run on five hits while striking out seven and walking only one in six innings. Jason Gordon picked up the save by pitching the seventh with one strikeout. Tom VanKasteren (1-2) took the loss, allowing three runs, all unearned, on three hits, two walks and three strikouts in 4.2 innings.

Sean Cunningham's two-run single in the fifth gave Oshawa the lead. Chris Sereda drove in the final run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Alex Blackburn's RBI single in the sixth was all the scoring the Majors could muster.

Stratford Storm 5, Guelph Royals 13

In Guelph, Joel Lynch hit a grand-slam home run in the fifth inning to cap a 10-run inning and lead the Guelph Royals to a 13-5 win over the Stratford Storm.

Frankie Hare, Kevin Hinton, Ryan Asis, Matt Spatafora and Lynch each had two hits for the Royals. Hinton�s pair gives him 596 career hits, moving him into third spot in the all-time IBL hit leaders surpassing Hamilton�s Dean DiCenzo.

Jay Greaves had three hits for Stratford while Chris Novia added a two-run home run.

Ian Harvey (3-1) was the winning pitcher going six innings and allowing three runs, four hits, one walk with five strikeouts. Joe Laderoute (0-2) took the loss.
