Churchill Leads Royals Over Majors

Guelph first-baseman Trevor Churchill went 3 for 4 with a solo home run (3) to lead the Royals to their eighth win of the season. Churchill also had a pair of RBI�s and scored three times. Kyle Leon and Chris Becker added three RBI�s each while Matt Spatafora went 3 for 5 and scored three times. Brian Dikdan (3-1) earned the win with six solid innings. He gave up three earned runs on six hits while striking out nine and walking three. Ray Dennis came on in the seventh and threw three scoreless innings. For London Kevin Virtue went 2 for 4 with and RBI. Majors starter Yoel Fernandez (0-2) took the loss, giving up six earned runs on seven hits over five innings.

Gibbons Powers Maple Leafs To Big Win

Toronto�s Dan Gibbons put on a hitting display for the 600-plus fans at Oshawa�s Minor Baseball Day. Gibbons hammered a grand slam (4) and added a three-run double to lead the Maple Leafs to their tenth victory against only one loss this season. Rich Butler added two hits and scored four times, Mike Asselin walked four times and scored three runs while Sean Travers scored five times. Jeff Reeves (1-0) picked up the win with six strong innings of work. He gave up two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out twelve. Oshawa pitchers struggled all afternoon and starter Ryan Colburn (0-2) took the loss after allowing five earned runs over and inning and a third. He had control problems, walking six and throwing three wild pitches.

Tigers Down Red Sox, Win Third Game

Waterloo moved into a tie with Brantford and Oshawa for eighth place with the 5-3 win over the Red Sox. Tyler Wilson (1-1) earned the win with three innings of work. He gave up one earned run on three hits while striking out two. Mike Robertson led the Tigers attack with a double and two runs with Mike Smith adding a pair of singles. For Brantford Tyson Morgan had two singles and scored two of the three Red Sox runs. Mark Sheppard took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits over five innings. He struck out nine and walked one.

The Baycats nipped the Storm 7-6 in a thriller this afternoon. Sean Chalmers scored the winning run on a 2-out wild pitch by St. Thomas pitcher and loser Tom Vancasteren in the bottom of the eighth inning. Chalmers singled, stole second and went to third on a stolen base to set up the winning run. He also had two hits and added an RBI for Barrie. St.Thomas led 6-4 after a four-run seventh, but Barrie came back with two in the bottom of inning. Andy Sorochan chipped in with a hit and a pair of runs scored. Brad Bissell (1-0) earned the win with an inning and a third of relief. Starter Cam Newitt went six and a third. Jamie Gosselin led the Storm offense with a hit, three walks, two runs and two RBI�s.

Baycats Sweep Storm

Brad Grievison upped his record to 2-0 as the Baycats downed the Storm 3-2 to complete the doubleheader sweep. Grievison threw a complete-game five-hitter with seven strikeouts to vault Barrie into sole possession of third with a record of 8 and 3. Ryan Davis led the offense with two doubles and an RBI while Sean Chalmers added two hits. For St. Thomas Jeremy Hudson was one for four with a stolen base and a run scored. Sean Speller (1-2) took the loss, giving up two earned runs over three innings. Storm starter Brent Kennedy left the game with an injury after the fourth inning.
