IBL Playoff Update - Tuesday August 2

Toronto Maple Leafs 13, Oshawa Dodgers 9

In Oshawa, Joe Colameco had three hits and drove in a run to help the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 13-9 win over the Oshawa Dodgers in one of three games in the Intercounty Baseball League playoffs on Tuesday. Toronto wins the opening round playoff series in four games.

Paul Spoljaric (2-0) allowed two runs - one earned - and eight hits and struck out six batters in five innings for the win. Dave Hatch recorded the final out in the ninth inning for the save.

Danny Gibbons had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs and Jeremy Walker added a two-run double for Toronto.

Oshawa starter Matt Wilson (0-1) was the loser after allowing six runs - one earned - and three hits in three innings.

Ken Calway was four-for-six with a triple and Darryl Reid belted a three-run double in the ninth inning.

Barrie Baycats 7, London Majors 3

In Barrie, David Latour hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs to pace the Barrie Baycats to a 7-3 win over the London Majors. Barrie won the series 4-1.

Ryan Spataro singled and scored two runs in the win.

Angus Roy (2-0) went the distance for Barrie, allowing three runs and six hits while striking out 10 batters and walking one.

Tom Van Kastern (1-1) allowed one run on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings for London.

Kevin Virtue had three hits, including a double and Simon Gallaraga homered and drove in two runs in the loss.

In Guelph, Sean Reilly singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Guelph Royals to a 6-5 win over the Hamilton Thunderbirds.

Frankie Hare and Mike Alati each had two hits and drove in a run in the win.

Brian Barr (1-0) allowed five runs and eight hits in a complete game effort for Guelph.

Andrew Schwalm (1-2) took the loss after allowing four runs - three earned - and four hits in four innings of relief for starter Mike Rees, who gave up two runs and four hits in four innings.

Andy Steeds hit a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning that gave Hamilton a one-run lead.
