IBL Playoff Update - Wednesday August 3

Kitchener Panthers 9, Brantford Red Sox 2

In Brantford, Steve Hornostaj had four hits, including a double, and scored two runs to help the Kitchener Panthers to a 9-2 win over the Brantford Red Sox in the Intercounty Baseball League playoffs on Wednesday. Kitchener won the opening round playoff series in five games.

Andy Pietraszko had a pair of hits and scored a run and Luke Baker and Jeff Pietrazko each had two doubles in the win.

Brad Hay (1-0) allowed two runs and 10 hits in eight innings for Brantford.

Mike Kusiewicz (0-1) gave up six runs and 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings for Brantford.

Hamilton Thunderbirds 13, Guelph Royals 7

In Hamilton, Jon McGinn belted a pair of home runs to pace the Hamilton Thunderbirds to a 13-7 win over the Guelph Royals. Hamilton tied the series at three games each and forced a Game 7 in Guelph on Thursday.

Mark MacDonald had three hits, including a double and a home run and drove in four runs in the win.

Billy Lawrence (1-1) was the winner after allowing two runs and three hits in 5 1/3 innings of relief for starter Justin Bartkiewicz, who surrendered five runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Guelph starter Brian Dikdan (0-1) took the loss after giving up seven runs and nine hits in three innings.

Kevin Hinton hit a run-scoring double that helped Guelph jump out to a five-run lead in the second inning.
