IBL Announces MVP, Rookie of the Year and All-Star Teams
The Intercounty Baseball League today announced the Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year and All-Star Teams for the 2005 season.
Most Valuable Player - Ryan Spataro, Barrie Baycats
Spataro led the IBL with a .416 batting average, 57 hits and 19 stolen bases in 33 games this season. He helped the Baycats to a 21-15 record and a third place finish in the regular season. The 22-year-old centre fielder was a draft pick of the Minnesota Twins in 2000. Spataro, who homered in Saturday's 6-0 win over Guelph that advanced Barrie to the IBL Championship Series, was also selected to the First All-Star Team.
Rookie of the Year - Ryan Asis, Guelph Royals
Asis led the Guelph Royals and was fourth in the IBL with a .396 batting average this season. He added nine extra base hits and drove in 29 runs in 31 games. The Mississauga native is a sophomore at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. Asis was named an outfielder for the Second All-Star Team.
