Toronto Maple Leafs 7, Kitchener Panthers 5
In Kitchener, Carl Embro led off the ninth inning with a home run that pushed the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 7-5 win over the Kitchener Panthers in the Intercounty Baseball League playoffs on Tuesday. Toronto wins the series 4-2 and advances to the IBL Championship Series against the Barrie Baycats beginning on Thursday at Christie Pits.
Shayne Ridley had three hits, including a solo homer in the first inning for Toronto.
Doug Dimma (1-0) was perfect in 2 2/3 innings of relief, striking out four batters. Toronto starter Yole Reina went 6 1/3 innings.
Adam Hummel (0-2) took the loss in relief of starter Adam Hornostaj, who gave up five runs - four earned - and nine hits in 7 2/3 innings.
Steve Hornostaj had two hits, including a two-run homer that out Kitchener ahead in the seventh inning. Jeff Pietraszko was three-for-four and scored two runs.
