Veteran Calway Back in Oshawa for Fifth Season

For those who have been fans of the Dodgers at anytime over the past four seasons, our recent signee needs no introduction. Ken Calway is a player who has become synonymous with the Oshawa Dodgers and the Intercounty League.

He is the only remaining team member to have played in each season since the Dodgers were established in 2002.

Dodger fans (and those around the league as Barrie will attest) have whole-heartedly embraced Kenny or Ken-Rod as he is known in Dodger circles, as a fan favourite for his stature and pleasant demeanour.

Ken is relied upon for his powerful bat and his ability to change the shape of a game with one swing, something he has done frequently over the years for the Dodgers.

Ken is the consummate clutch performer. He can always be counted on for that big hit when it counts. While consistently putting up solid regular season numbers, Kens bat comes alive in the post-season. He holds Single Season Playoff Records for Average, On-Base % (a staggering .700), Hits, Doubles, Triples, Homeruns, Walks and RBI. Correspondingly, he also leads the Dodgers offensively in most All-Time Playoff categories including: Average, On-Base %, Hits, Doubles, Homeruns, Walks, Total Bases and RBI. As a testament to Calways versatility, on July 21, 2003 versus Waterloo, he became the first Oshawa Dodger to steal home.

Dodgers coach Troy May, who has coached Ken both in Intercounty and in Junior baseball as a member of the Oshawa Legionaires, holds him in the highest esteem as the ultimate team-player.

Ken is a player that any Manager would want on their team. His on-field talents, particularly at the plate, are amazing but it is the things he brings off the field, his attitude, team commitment, baseball knowledge, all the intangibles, which differentiate him from other players. Kenny will be a role-model for the younger players who are just beginning their Dodger careers. He has the drive and heart we are looking to build this team on in 2006. Time and time again Ken has proven his dedication to the Dodgers and through the highs and lows has persevered with the team. Our ultimate goal over the next few seasons is to bring the championship to Oshawa for the fans and players like Kenny who deserve a reward for their commitment and loyalty to the organization.

With this most recent signing, the Dodgers are now well on their way to establishing the 2006 roster. Stay tuned to www.oshawadodgers.net for up-to-date signings, player profiles and news from around the league.
