Baycats Announce New Partnership

The Barrie Baycats Baseball Club is proud to announce its involvement in Simcoe Countys new competitive baseball team the Simcoe County Cougars.

This has been the culmination of a year long collaborative effort between the South Simcoe Minor Baseball Association, Barrie Minor Baseball and the Barrie Baycats, and the aforementioned clubs will form the governing committee for this developmental program. The Cougars will be playing in the Greater Toronto Baseball League, one of the most highly skilled senior leagues in Ontario.

This is a fantastic initiative to provide another opportunity for players with the ability to play at a higher level, states Past President of SSMBA, Ron McLean. (Current President Bruce Kennedy was unavailable for comment at the time of writing)

Sue Charters of BMBA is also excited about this new development and states, "This is an awesome opportunity for our league and it's players. The team will give every young baseball player in Barrie and Simcoe County something to aspire to, a team that they can envision themselves playing on some time down the road.

"The Barrie Baycats look forward to building a strong relationship with the Cougars, said David Mills, President Barrie Baycats Baseball Club. The future bodes well for us in that a number of these players will become welcomed additions to the Baycats in the foreseeable future. This is one more step in providing an excellent baseball venue in Barrie and Simcoe County"

Players interested in tryout out for the team can send an email to info@sccougars.com. The minimum age for entry is 18.

Currently there are few options for kids in Simcoe County to play competitive ball after the age of 18, states General Manager Bill Dodson. This team will allow players to work on their skills and still stay in the County. We are anticipating a large turnout for tryouts which will field us a strong team.

Applications are also being accepted for the positions of manager and coaches. Interested individuals can send their resume (in Word or PDF) to info@sccougars.com or Simcoe County Cougars, PO Box 20192, Barrie, ON, L4M 6E9.
