Royals Snap Two-Game Skid Thanks To A Five-Run Seventh

Guelph scored five times on seven hits in the third inning to erase an 8-4 deficit and move a full game ahead of Barrie in the battle for second place in the Inter-County Major standings. The Royals also hit back-to-back-to-back jacks in the fourth courtesy of Jason Borghese (2), Kyle Leon (2) and Kevin Treichel (3). Trevor Churchill went 4 for 5 while Borghese had three hits on the night for the winners. Chris Becker also had a home run (4), a solo shot in the seventh. Casey Cooper (2-2) picked up the win in relief of starter Derek Cuffy. Cooper gave up two earned runs on nine hits over six innings. Mike Didier came on in the ninth to pick up his second save.
London starter Jared Franke started, but gave way to Yoel Fernandez (0-3) who took the loss. He gave up three earned runs in three innings of work. Franke allowed four earned runs on nine hits in five innings. Joe Wollscheid led the Majors attack with two hits and three RBI�s, and he also scored twice. Tim Hinchcliffe scored twice, and had two hits and two RBI�s.

Kitchener exploded for nineteen runs, and much of the power supply came off the bat of Luke Baker. Baker hit three home runs � a solo shot in the first, a 2-run blast in the fifth and a 3-run home run in the eighth. Baker, who didn�t have any round-trippers until tonight, finished the night with four hits, five runs scored, seven RBI�s and a stolen base. Randy Curran also had a big night with three hits, three walks, three RBI�s and he scored four times. Curran�s hits included a solo home run in the first, his sixth of the season.
Mike Olides (2-2) earned the win with six innings of work. He allowed five earned runs on seven hits while striking out three, walking five and throwing a pair of wild pitches.
St. Thomas starter Jason Head took the loss in his first appearance of the season. Head gave up seven earned runs on six hits in an inning and a third. He walked two and struck out one. Bob Grant hit a solo home run (1) for the Storm while Andrew Mercier was 2 for 5 with a pair of singles. The loss for St. Thomas was their third in a row.
