Panthers Squander 8-0 Lead, Lose 11-9 To Maple Leafs

Toronto 0 0 5 0 0 1 2 3 0 11 10 5
Kitchener 3 5 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 9 9 5
The Panthers let an 8-0 lead slip away and had their 6-game win streak broken by an incredible Maple Leafs comeback. Kitchener led 8-0 after two innings thanks in large part to Randy Currans grand slam home run (9) in the second inning. But Toronto catcher Damon Topolie answered back with his own grand slam (2) in the third and the comeback was on. The Maple Leafs scored three times in the eighth to take the lead with two of those runs, including the game-winner, coming off 2 Kitchener errors.
The Maple Leafs went deep three more times in the game. Mike Asselin (1), Rob Patterson (5) and Jason Trimm (1) all hit solo shots. Chad Ertel (2-1) struck out two of the three batters he faced in the eighth to earn the win. Toronto starter Chris Rauth was chased after just two innings after surrendering seven earned runs on seven hits. Kitchener reliever Jesus Figeuroa took the loss (1-3) despite not giving up a hit in his two innings of work. Offensively, Curran went 2 for 5 with three walks on the night. He leads the league with free passes with a total of twenty-seven. Luke Baker added two hits for the Panthers, now a game below .500.
Kitchener did threaten in the ninth with runners on first and second and no one out, but Mark Johnston hit into a doubleplay and Dave Hatch struck out Andy Pietraszko to end the threat. Hatchs save was his third of the season.

Barries Brad Bissell was just a little bit better than Oshawas Adam Clarke tonight as the Baycats downed the Dodgers 3-1. Bissell (4-0) allowed one run on eight hits in a complete-game effort while striking out eleven. Sean Chalmers led the Barrie offense with a home run while five different players accounted for their other five hits. Clarke (0-7) also went the distance, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out eleven. Tony Quick, Ryan Crotin and Terry Arges led the Dodgers attack with two hits each. Barries Jared McCord made the defensive play of the game, turning a big-time double play with the bases loaded and one out in the second inning. Oshawa had some chances, but stranded nine runners over the first five innings.
