Fortuna�s Grand Slam Leads Red Sox In Game One

Matt Fortuna�s grand slam home run (2) in the bottom of the seventh led Brantford to an 8-4 win in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. Ryan Lane added a pair of singles and he also scored three times. Red Sox ace Stefan Strecker (4-1) threw seven innings to earn the win, striking out four. Angus Roy started, gave up all eight runs (seven earned) and took the loss for the Baycats. Ian Prescott led Barrie�s offense with a two-run double.

Red Sox Complete Sweep With Extra Inning Win

The Red Sox are now percentage points up on Waterloo in the battle for the seventh and final playoff position thanks to a sweep of the visiting Baycats Saturday afternoon. Brandon Steele�s RBI-single in the bottom of the first extra inning won it for Brantford after Jared McCord�s 2-run home run gave Barrie a 2-0 lead. Brantford starter Mark Ferguson went the distance to earn the win. Cam Newitt took the loss for Barrie. The fourth-place Baycats now lead the streaking Kitchener Panthers by just a single game. Barrie is in Toronto to battle the league-leading Maple Leafs on Sunday afternoon.

Parsons, Mercier Lead Storm Over Royals

Darby Parsons earned the win while Andrew Mercier knocked in a pair of runs on two singles as St. Thomas doubled Guelph 4-2 in the first of two Saturday afternoon. One of Mercier�s RBI�s was the game-winner and came on a single in the third inning. Parsons allowed two earned runs on seven hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one. Pete Babcock then came on to get the final out earn the save. Kris Kewley and Rick Ross added two hits each for the winners. For the visiting Royals Trevor Churchill and Matt Spatafora each had a double, single and an RBI. Mel Melehes took went all seven innings for Guelph and took the loss. He gave up four earned runs, stuck out eight and walked none.

Brohman�s Three RBI�s Lead Guelph Past St. Thomas

Guelph scored runs in all but the fifth inning as they doubled St. Thomas 10-5 to earn a split of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. Mark Brohman, who was batting .154 with seven RBI�s coming into the game, had a home run, single and three RBI�s to pace the Royals. Trevor Churchill added three hits and a pair of RBI�s, Chris Becker had three singles and one RBI and Nathan Grant had a single and two RBI�s. Brian Dikdan picked up the win, allowing three earned runs on six hits in five innings. St. Thomas starter Mark Ford took the loss, giving up six earned runs on seven hits in just two and a third innings. Jason Head led the Storm offensively with a solo home run, his ninth, and a single. Kris Kewley continued his productive play with a double, single and three RBI�s.
